Hi, I'm Marisa
"To me, therapy offers a rare and intentional pause from the constant demands of the outside world. It creates space for you to connect or reconnect with yourself while engaging in a meaningful and collaborative relationship with someone trained in ways to help you become more aware, learn new tools and gain insights. It's a place to feel genuinely heard and understood. Together, we work to clarify what truly matters to you, and from that clarity, your next steps start to feel more purposeful and aligned with the life you want to create."
My Counseling Story
My journey as a counselor began before I even received my Master's Degree, working at an outdoor therapeutic school for teen boys. This experience was transformational for me and helped me realize I wanted to support people in this way as a career. I went on to earn my Master's Degree in Counseling from the University of New Hampshire and interned at Rochester Middle School working with teens, and then counseling adults at Community Partners in Rochester, NH.
Post-grad, I worked at Riverbend Community Mental Health Center in Concord, NH in the Community Support Program supporting adults; providing individual and group psychotherapy. I also briefly served as the New Hampshire Hospital Liaison for Riverbend. After that, I worked in the Adult Outpatient Program at Riverbend Counseling Associates, while also working on a contract with the NH Bureau of Behavioral Health providing mental health training and consultation to the 10 mental health centers in New Hampshire.
After having my first child, I discovered a passion for supporting women and couples in the perinatal phase of life. I transitioned at Riverbend Counseling Associates to a position allowing me to provide therapy within an OBGYN practice in Concord, NH. This was such an informative experience that furthered my knowledge of and experience with individuals in the perinatal phase of life.
In 2012, I opened a solo private practice in Barrington, NH called Barrington Counseling Center, specializing in Perinatal Mental Health and couples therapy. During this time, I expanded my therapeutic offering by training in EMDR, Group Peer Support, and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. I worked on a contract with Wentworth-Douglas Hospital on their Women & Children's unit leading the Postpartum Support Group for about 6 years.
In 2024, I re-discovered my love of providing supervision to interns and pre-licensed therapists and decided to open Ebbs & Flows Counseling. Although I do have a very small caseload, my primary roles at the practice are screening new clients and matching them with the right therapist, providing supervision to pre-licensed therapists on their path to licensure, and fostering a practice that feels supportive for both clients and clinicians.
